Description :

As part of her Master’s degree, Camille St-Louis wrote a thesis examining the links between intimate partner violence (IPV) experienced by lesbian women (LW) and their life trajectories. To meet three objectives, interviews with 14 LW, including seven younger LW (aged 20–29) and seven older LW (aged 45–60), were analysed.

  1. to identify the forms, manifestations and consequences of IPV experienced by LW;
  2. to identify the coping strategies they use in response to this experience;
  3. to explore the impact of their life trajectories and experience of IPV.

This presentation will focus on these three objectives, contrasting the results according to the age of the participants. First, the different forms, manifestations and consequences of IPV will be presented. Next, the coping strategies employed by the PL will be presented. Finally, certain links between their life trajectories and their experience of VRIA will be explored.
