Centre for Research and Expertise in Social Gerontology

The Centre for Research and Expertise in Social Gerontology (CREGÉS) brings together researchers, research-practitioners, students and collaborators from practice settings around the same mission: to improve services and professional practices for older adults. This mission is pursued by the development of social research, the development, testing and validation of Leading-edge practices, the social services and health intervention and technology assessment unit (ÉTMISSS) and through teaching and knowledge transfer activities.

Our Research Axes in Social Gerontology

The CREGÉS research program is structured around five axes in social gerontology, a multidisciplinary field of study focused on the social aspects of aging.

  • Axis 1 | Seniors as Social Actors;
  • Axis 2 | Heterogeneity of Ageing: Bodies, Identities and Society;
  • Axis 3 | Service Delivery to Seniors and Their Loved Ones;
  • Axis 4 | Living Environments;
  • Transversal Axis | Public Policies.

Our Domains of Expertise in Social Gerontology

CREGÉS guides and supports, through research, intervention environments for the development of Leading practices in four Domains of Expertise in social gerontology:

CREGÉS contributes to the education and training of students (bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate) and health care practitioners and its partner organizations. It also participates in the health intervention and technology assessment unit (ÉTMISSS) in social gerontology.

Our Realisations and Activities in Social Gerontology

CREGÉS organizes diverse knowledge sharing activities (e.g., seminars, conferences, thematic days) and has to its credit a variety of achievements (e.g., scientific publications, Pluriâges magazine, CREGÉS workbooks). In the context of the development of Leading practices, the Centre for Research and Expertise in Social Gerontology also develops a range of programs, tools and guides. Moreover, CREGÉS members seek to influence public policies, particularly by producing policy briefs and participating in consultations.

It is through CREGÉS that the Integrated Health and Social Services University Network for West-Central Montreal was awarded the designation of University-Affiliated Centre (CAU) in social gerontology.

The Centre for Research and Expertise in Social Gerontology (CREGÉS) is funded by the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) du Québec and by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et Culture (FRQSC) within the Soutien aux infrastructures de recherche des Instituts et centres affiliés universitaires du secteur social program. CREGÉS is also affiliated with McGill University, the Université de Montréal and the Université du Québec à Montréal. In addition, it collaborates closely with the partnership research team FRQSC Vieillissements, exclusions sociales et solidarités (VIES) and the international project Ageing + Communication + Technologies (ACT).
