Description :

Programming • Student Competition

For the 2026 edition of its annual symposium, intended for a broad audience including those working in social intervention and research, as well as students, older adults, and caregivers, CREGÉS invites you to take part in this collective reflection on the diversity of end-of-life, dying, and bereavement experiences among older adults.

The symposium will provide a forum for dialogue to explore:

  • the processes and experiences of dying, from the perspective of older adults, their loved ones, and the professionals or volunteers who accompany them;
  • the experiences and processes of bereavement that surround the death of older adults;
  • the social representations, normative frameworks, social policies, and institutional discourses that shape these experiences.

Presentations may address the following themes:

  • How do different realities—such as diagnosis, type of illness, age, social and family context, or membership in different social groups—shape older adults’ experience of end-of-life?
  • How and in what ways does end-of-life care (including palliative care, medical aid in dying, and palliative sedation) vary depending on care settings and contexts (palliative care facilities, home care, hospitals, residential care facilities, prisons, etc.) as well as depending on who is involved (family members, professionals, volunteers, etc.)?
  • How do experiences of dying, palliative and end-of-life care, or bereavement inform our collective relationships to death and aging?
  • How do different end-of-life and aging trajectories shed light on clinical and ethical issues related to accessing or delivering end-of-life care (palliative care, palliative sedation, medical aid in dying)?
  • What shapes the different experiences of grief among older adults nearing the end of life, their loved ones, and the people who care for and support them?
