The Tool for Screening Potential Situations of Sexual Mistreatment Against Older Adults was developed to raise awareness among and support practitioners in the community sector and the health and social services network.  

This project follows from the Plan d’action gouvernemental pour contrer la maltraitance envers les personnes aînées 2022-2027 (MSSS, 2022). Within this strategic and legislative context, CREGÉS was mandated to “add content on sexual mistreatment to existing training programs.” More specifically, the project aims to achieve Objective 3.1, “raise awareness and provide training to various stakeholders and settings on the phenomenon of mistreatment,” including Measure 17, which involves “developing tools and training content to address mistreatment, adapted to different living environments,” through the application of the Sex/Gender-Based Analysis Plus (SGBA+) approach from an intersectional perspective.

Lastly, this project is also part of Action 38 of the Stratégie gouvernementale intégrée pour contrer la violence sexuelle, la violence conjugale et rebâtir la confiance 2022-2027 led by the Secrétariat à la condition féminine (2024). Action 38, led by the Secrétariat aux aînés in collaboration with the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI), aims to “support and equip practitioners in the health and social services network who work with older adults who are victims of sexual violence and intimate partner violence.”

Tool for Screening Potential Situations of Sexual Mistreatment Against Older Adults

The Tool for Screening Potential Situations of Sexual Mistreatment Against Older Adults and its companion guide are now available. They are intended to raise awareness among and support practitioners in the health and social services network and the community sector in identifying potential situations of sexual mistreatment involving older adults.

This project falls within the scope of the Plan d’action gouvernemental pour contrer la maltraitance envers les personnes aînées 2022-2027 and the law aimed at combating mistreatment of seniors and other persons of full age in vulnerable situations.

It supports the actions of the Stratégie gouvernementale intégrée pour contrer la violence sexuelle, la violence conjugale et rebâtir la confiance 2022-2027, particularly by supporting practitioners working with older adults.
