Description:

The Canadian Charter of Rights for Persons with Dementia asserts that persons with dementia have the right to receive the support they require to participate in decisions that affect them. This right has been reinforced by recent changes to capacity legislation in Quebec. Yet, direction on how to best support persons with dementia with decisions of importance to them is lacking. This talk will present the combined results of a scoping review of the literature and consultations with persons with dementia and their care partners to identify the current state of knowledge on supported decision making. The types of decision of importance, challenges and innovations for supporting decisions and critical knowledge gaps will be highlighted.
