This guide was developped as part of the research project “La bientraitance envers les personnes aînées : mieux comprendre le concept et les particularités au Québec”, funded by the program Actions concertées FRQSC in partnership with the Secrétariat aux aînés and the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec.
This tool was produced in collaboration with a team of experts from the CREGÉS of the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal which includes, Sophie Éthier, CREGÉS researcher; Mélanie Couture, CREGÉS Institutional researcher; Anna Andrianova, Coordinator of the Domain of expertise in Caregiving; Sandra Smele, Coordinator of the Domain of expertise in Inclusive Aging, Diversity, Health and Well-Being (IDSB) and Sarita Israel, Coordinator of the Domain of expertise to Counter Mistreatment.
The approach proposed in this Guide is flexible. It can be adapted to each residential setting. For example, instead of starting the process by defining the concept of “good treatment” (“bientraitance”), the governmental definition can be shared and discussed. The two key messages of this Guide are: 1) mobilize all the actors involved in the good treatment of older adults 2) value good treatment in your residence, in terms of practices, policies and the people who engage in good treatment.
