A new online training course about the financial mistreatment of older adults and vulnerable persons is now available to the 41,000 members of the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés (CPA) du Québec.
The training is part of the Ordre’s continuing education program and was developed as part of Measure 27 of the Government Action Plan to Combat Elder Abuse 2022-2027 – Recognize and Act Together (Plan d’action gouvernemental pour contrer la maltraitance envers les personnes aînées 2022-2027 – Reconnaître et agir ensemble).
This training, which aims to raise awareness among members of the Ordre des CPA about the issues of material and financial abuse, was developed jointly by the Centre for Research and Expertise in Social Gerontology (CREGÉS) of the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal (CIUSSS COMTL), and the Ordre des CPA, in collaboration with the Secrétariat aux aînés of the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS). With financial support from the MSSS, it also aims to equip CPAs to contribute to the prevention of abuse and to fulfill their legal obligations in this regard.
The contributions of the CREGÉS are part of a ministerial mandate given to the Centre for the development of training programs for the health and social services network, the community network, and the financial sector. This CREGÉS mandate was led by the team from the Domain of Expertise to Counter Mistreatment of Older Adults.
