Sabrina Lessard, CREGÉS institutional researcher, and Tamara Sussman, CREGÉS regular researcher, present a research synthesis on the subject of the experience of CHSLD residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
They invite us to explore the inclusion of people in future pandemic planning, and to reflect on the day-to-day lives of CHSLD residents.
This research brief invites us to dive into the experiences of people who lived through the COVID-19 pandemic in a Montreal long-term care center (CHSLD). The people we met described COVID-19 as an experience marked by hardship, and emphasized their sense of belonging to a community. They also emphasize their desire, their ability to act and the importance of being seen as able to. The testimonials call for the inclusion of residents in the development of actions to be taken in CHSLDs, in times of pandemic as well as on a day-to-day basis.
