Ministerial Mandate – Caregiving
As part of the 2021-2026 Government Action Plan for Caregivers, CREGÉS was mandated by Quebec’s Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) to develop a training program about caregivers, in partnership with the Formation continue partagée team of the Santé Québec Estrie – CHUS. The project is being led by the CREGÉS Domain of Expertise in Caregiving and is under the scientific direction of Isabelle Van Pevenage, institutional researcher.
This training is available to anyone working with caregivers, including staff and managers in the health and social services network (e.g., home care, local community service centres, long-term care homes, etc.) through the provincial Digital Learning Environment (ENA). It is also available to individuals working outside the public network (e.g., private seniors’ residences, non-profit organizations, etc.) who have access to the FCP Partners platform.
The training consists of three phases. The first group of modules, which forms the core curriculum, has been available since June 2024. The second group of modules has been available since June 2026 on both digital learning platforms. The third and final phase, focusing on the characteristics of caregiving relationships as they relate to caregiver characteristics, will be released soon. These trainings are currently available only in French.
Bloc 1: Portrait des réalités et besoins des personnes proches aidantes : pour une meilleure reconnaissance
The first group of modules aims to demystify caregiving and the diversity of caregiving experiences while highlighting both the positive impacts and the challenges associated with caregiving, for caregivers as well as for practitioners. It also lays the foundation for appropriate interventions tailored to different caregiving and practice contexts, helping professionals better recognize and support caregivers through a partnership-based approach. Throughout the training, theoretical content is illustrated by clinical case studies that showcase a wide range of contexts and reflect the diversity of caregiving situations.

Bloc 2: Diversité des situations de proche aidance : pour de meilleures pratiques – Partie 1
The second phase of the training focuses on the specific characteristics of caregiving relationships according to the type of disability or impairment experienced by the care recipient, and on how interventions can be adapted to meet these particular needs. Following an introductory module, learners are invited to select a learning pathway based on their area of practice. Learning in these specialized sections is supported by narrative clinical case studies that help illustrate the evolution of clinical pathways and caregiving trajectories in these different contexts.
