Persons Committing Mistreatment against Older Adults: Contexts, Interventions, and Experiences

This research project focuses on the mistreatment of older adults by family members or people close to them (friends, neighbours, etc.). The objective is to better understand the various contexts and life paths of people who mistreat older adults, as well as to explore the types of interventions available to them and how these interventions can be implemented in diverse contexts.

Objectives

The project is structured around four specific objectives and mobilize different research methods:

  1. Exploring the sociocultural, historical, political, and relational contexts underlying situations where older adults are mistreated by someone close to them (narrative literature reviews and interviews with key informants).
  2. Documenting the types of interventions and support available to people who commit mistreatment in Quebec (practice narrative interviews with practitioners).
  3. Identifying the most effective ways to implement promising interventions on a larger scale, considering various sociocultural, political, historical, and relational contexts (practice narrative interviews with practitioners).
  4. Documenting the experiences of individuals who have received support after mistreating older adults (life narrative interviews with individuals who have mistreated older adults close to them).

Call for Participants

We are looking to recruit participants for practice narrative interviews with practitioners.

You can participate if:

  • You are a practitioner or professional working within a public organization, the community sector, or the health and social services network (RSSS).
  • You have at least two years of experience in working with individuals who have committed mistreatment against older adults.
  • You have obtained authorization from your immediate supervisor to participate in the project.
